What Does A Louisiana Wedding Designer Do?

What exactly does a wedding designer do? And how does that differ from a wedding planner? Aren’t they the same thing? While the two skills are often intertwined, they are not interchangeable.  Given the recent website redesign, now is as good a time as any to break down exactly what a wedding designer is, and why you may or may not want one for your wedding day!

I have to give this caveat, while planning and design are two distinct services,  it’s not common for couples to know the difference immediately. You’re in the perfect place. So grab your drink of choice and let’s have a chat.

Wedding planners are responsible for the wedding day logistics.  Understanding the budget and the flow of the day are top priorities when we have our wedding planning hat on. It’s about smooth and stress-free planning.   But that means pulling the pieces together to execute your stylistic vision falls back on YOU.  We may recommend vendors and provide guidance for quantities you may need, but when it it comes to putting a foot on the gas, you’re still driving this car.

And while a planner is coordinating all of your wedding day details, ensuring a smooth logistical execution, the design portion is actually quite different!

Hiring a wedding planner who has design services as an option changes this game.  We can bring your wedding to LIFE.

On the planning side of things, we’re focused on minimizing your stress and overwhelm leading up to the day, and on the day, how the event FEELS.

  • Budget Planning

  • Venue Selection

  • Vendor Coordination

  • Timeline Creation

  • Invitation & RSVP Management

  • Contingency Planning

  • Assistance with Accommodations and Transportation:

  • Rehearsal Coordination:

  • Wedding Day Execution (and wedding-night clean-up)

  • Post-Wedding Tasks

  • And let’s not forget we come with years of experience, are excellent referees, a deep well of Etiquette knowledge, know how to camouflage the inevitable snafus.

  • And bring a  killer Emergency Kit too

But on the design side, we’re thinking about the aesthetic of the day.  We’re sourcing quotes from florists and rental companies specific to the design, not “just” the guest count. We’re considering flow, visual impact, and ambiance.

Fun fact: Design proposals are usually between 10-12 pages long - the include inspiration, color palettes, mock-ups, unique personal details and all the numbers needed to bring it to live.

Oftentimes, couples intuitively want BOTH services but don’t realize that some companies don’t have both skill sets on staff. There are some AMAZING planners in Louisiana that don’t provide design services. It doesn’t make them less effective at their job. But it does mean there is a gap in offerings for the couples who know they want a gorgeous day that flows beautifully and feels like the most epic party of their lives!
